and 为连词,前后两句连着两句句子,之类的词还有but,so之类
也就是说是句子,要出现动词.比如He sat down and had a cup.之外的情况还有表修饰形容,例如,they are large and heavy
但是,你给的句子中,句一就是and 做连词,后跟独立完整的句子,所以and 后面出现的必为主语或代词（it,this,that,those,us,them之类）才能形成一句句子,要么就不加主语,但一定不加“which,when”之类的关系代词它们只适用于从句中.
你举的第二个例子就是如此,其中,逗号隔开但仍为一句句子,只有一个主动词和一个主语,看一下成分,显然如果想修饰主语“novels”,加丛句修饰只能用丛句中的关系连词,不能另起一主语代词（上面已举例）除非另起一句子.
