Kinematics describes the wheelmovements caused by vertical suspension travel and steering
where merely vertical wheel forces are involved.The changes in the wheel positions resulting
from lateral or longitudinal wheel forces are described by elastokinematics.In this work,
all driving manoeuvres are done with constant vehicle speed,hence no major longitudinalforces are occurring and only lateral force effects are considered.Effects of toe-in and camber
alterations on the steering wheel torque are small for on-centre driving due to counterbalancing
effects of left- and right-hand side.The important remaining effects are roll steering and lateral
force steering.Both are included through the introduction of an additional steering angle at
the front and rear axle dependent on of the roll angle and the lateral force assuming a linear
relationship for occurring small angles.The coefficients are extracted out of measurements
from the Kinematics and Compliance test rig (K&C).The rear wheel lateral steering coefficient
is around 5 · 10−5 deg/N and therefore this effect can be neglected as well.At the front axle
the lateral force effect is included through the implementation of the steering system model.
