Sense and reference are two different notions of semantics and they are related to each other.
A sense refers to any of the various meanings conveyed by a word,phrase or sentence.It relates to the complex system of relationships that hold between the linguistics elements themselves and it is concerned with intra-linguistic relationship.
A reference refers to the relationship between the linguistic elements and the non-linguistic world of experience.
Sense and reference may be taken as two different aspects of semantics,the former dealing with the semantics structure of language and the latter dealing with the meaning in terms of our experience outside language.
