DVD的全称,在诞生之初是Digital Video Disc（数字视频光盘）,目前则称为“Digital Versatile Disc”,即“数字通用光盘”,是CD/LD/VCD的后继产品.DVD从1994年下半年提出初步规格到1996年年初样机的出现只用了一年多的时间,可谓发展迅速,是娱乐业公认的新一代标准的存储技术.而且,计算机业对其做出的反应也十分积极.
