适当形式填空Mother cut the apple into ___(half).

half在这里指的是“一半”这样一个抽象名词.
cut apples into halves,thirds,quarters,etc.把苹果切成两半、三瓣、四瓣等
The bus was cut in half/in two by the train.公共汽车被火车撞成两截.

cut sth (in/into sth):divide sth (into small pieces) with a knife,etc
in/into后面跟的是小于原来形状的小块（small pieces）,既然被切开了,那肯定切开后是两块或两块以上,所以应当用复数形式,不能再用单数形式了.
另外,half的复数形式是halves,这一点一定要注意,这里考的是两个知识点.
